Save a frame from a video

Grab a still from a video at full resolution — sharper than a screen capture, with no player controls in the way. Use it for thumbnails, social posts, documentation or a photo of a moment you filmed instead of photographing.

How to save a frame

  1. Add a video — MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV — or paste a direct link to one.
  2. Play it and pause near the moment; use the Frame buttons to step backwards or forwards one frame at a time.
  3. Choose PNG (best quality) or JPG (smaller file) and press Capture this frame.
  4. Capture as many frames as you like, then download each one, or all of them as a ZIP.

Good to know

  • Frames are saved at the video’s own resolution: a 4K video gives 3840×2160 stills.
  • If your browser can’t play a file (some HEVC videos on Windows, for example), type the time of the frame instead and it is decoded with ffmpeg.
  • A frame from a moving scene can be blurred — step a few frames either way to find the sharpest one.
  • Want a moving clip instead? Make a GIF with Video to GIF; to add text to a still, try the Add Text to Image tool.

Everything happens in your browser: your video is never uploaded.
