To resize a GIF, open the GIF Resizer, add the GIF, and pick a quick size โ 25%, 50%, 75%, 150% or 200% โ or type the Width (px); the height follows while Keep the shape is ticked. Press Resize GIF and download it. Every frame is redrawn smoothly, and the animation, timing and transparency stay intact.
Resize a GIF step by step
- Open the GIF Resizer.
- Add the GIF โ or paste a direct link to one.
- Choose a quick size, or type the width (or height).
- For an exact width and height, untick Keep the shape and choose how to Fit:
- Fit (add space) โ keeps the whole picture, with transparent space around it.
- Fill (crop) โ fills the size, cutting off the edges.
- Stretch โ squashes the picture to the size.
- Check the size line (for example "480ร270 โ 240ร135") and the preview.
- Press Resize GIF and download it.
Common sizes
| Where | Size |
|---|---|
| Discord / Slack emoji | 128ร128 |
| Twitch emote | 112ร112 |
| Forum signature | 468ร60 or up to about 500ร150 |
| Chat and messaging | 320โ480 px wide |
| 300โ600 px wide | |
| Website hero | 800โ1200 px wide |
For emojis, the Emoji GIF Maker is easier: it squares, resizes and squeezes under the platform's limit in one go.
Resizing makes GIFs much smaller
File size follows the number of pixels. Halving the width (and height) leaves a quarter of the pixels โ often a GIF a quarter of the size or less. It's the single most effective way to get a GIF under an upload limit. For an exact limit, use the GIF Compressor, which tries size, colours and frames for you.
Making a GIF bigger
The resizer can enlarge a GIF up to 200% โ or to any size you type โ but it can't add detail that isn't there, so it will look softer. Small pixel-art GIFs are an exception: tick Sharp pixels (for pixel art) and choose 200% (or type a whole multiple of the size), and every pixel grows as a crisp square instead of a blur.
Crop or resize?
Resizing keeps the whole picture and changes its size. To cut away edges โ black bars, captions, empty space โ use the GIF Cropper. Often the best result is cropping first, then resizing.
Choosing between Fit, Fill and Stretch
When both width and height are set and the GIF has a different shape:
- Fit keeps everything visible and adds transparent space โ best for logos and stickers.
- Fill fills the space and trims the edges โ best for photos and video-style GIFs, as long as nothing important is near the edges.
- Stretch distorts the picture โ only for abstract patterns or when the shapes are nearly the same.
What's preserved
- Every frame and its delay โ the animation plays exactly as before.
- Transparency โ transparent backgrounds stay transparent.
- Looping โ kept, and adjustable under GIF output.
Privacy
The GIF is resized in your browser and never uploaded. No watermark.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my resized GIF look slightly different?
Each frame is redrawn and the colours re-optimised. Tick Dithering under GIF output for smoother gradients, or Separate colours for each frame for GIFs with changing scenes.
What's the largest size?
Up to 2000 pixels on each side, as long as the whole animation fits in your browser's memory โ the tool tells you if it's too big.
Can I resize several GIFs at once?
One at a time. For many still images, the Bulk Image Converter & Resizer works in batches.
