To make a quiet video louder, open Change Video Volume, add the video, and choose 150%, 200% or 300% โ€” or Even it out to bring the whole video to a standard loudness. Press Change volume, listen, and download the MP4. Peaks are held just under the maximum, so a boost doesn't crackle, and the picture is copied untouched.

Make a video louder step by step

  1. Open Change Video Volume.
  2. Add the video โ€” MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV โ€” or paste a direct link to one.
  3. Choose a Volume:
    • 150% โ€” a noticeable lift.
    • 200% โ€” twice as loud.
    • 300% โ€” for very quiet recordings.
    • Even it out โ€” automatic levelling to a standard loudness.
  4. Press Change volume, play the result, and download the MP4.

Boost or even it out?

  • Boost (150โ€“300%) raises everything by the same amount. Good when the whole video is uniformly quiet โ€” a phone recording from the back of a room, for example.
  • Even it out analyses the sound and sets it to โˆ’16 LUFS, the loudness podcasts and streaming services use. Quiet speech comes up, loud moments don't blare. Best when some parts are quiet and others loud โ€” an interview where one person sat further from the microphone.

If a boost makes the loud parts squashed or harsh, try Even it out instead.

Why videos come out quiet

  • The phone was far from whoever was speaking.
  • The microphone was covered by a hand or case.
  • The recording app lowered the level to avoid distortion.
  • Screen recordings captured system sound at a low level.

A boost can't create detail that wasn't recorded, and it raises background noise along with the voice. If hiss becomes obvious, clean it up afterwards with the Audio Noise Reducer.

Make a video quieter

The same tool turns sound down: 25%, 50% or 75%. Useful when one clip is much louder than the others in a compilation, or when background music in a clip is too loud. To silence it completely, use Mute Video.

Mixing in music

If you're adding background music, balance the two volumes directly with Add Audio to Video: it lets you set the music volume and the original volume separately.

Fixing a compilation of clips

When you join clips from different phones, their loudness rarely matches. Before merging with the Video Merger, run each clip through Even it out โ€” every clip ends up at the same standard loudness, so viewers don't need to reach for the volume between clips.

Quality

When the video is H.264 or HEVC โ€” as from almost every phone and camera โ€” the picture is copied exactly, with no quality loss, and only the sound is re-encoded (as AAC), so even long videos are quick. Other formats are re-encoded as MP4.

Tips for clear sound

  • Listen on a phone speaker after boosting โ€” it's the toughest test.
  • Don't overdo it. If the result sounds harsh at 300%, go back to 200% or use Even it out.
  • For speech-heavy videos, combine noise reduction first and Even it out second.

Privacy

Everything runs in your browser using ffmpeg (WebAssembly). Your video isn't uploaded, and there's no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

Can I boost more than 300%?

Run the result through again โ€” but expect background noise to become very obvious.

Will boosting cause distortion?

Peaks are limited just below full volume, so it won't crackle. Very large boosts can make sound feel squashed; Even it out usually sounds more natural.

What if the video has no sound?

The tool tells you โ€” there's nothing to make louder.
