To add music to a video, open Add Audio to Video, add the video and then the song. Choose Keep it and mix to keep the video's own sound underneath, or Replace it; set the Music volume (and the Original volume); tick Repeat the music for a short track and Fade the music out at the end. Press Add audio to video and download the MP4.
Add music step by step
- Open Add Audio to Video.
- Add the video — MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV — or paste a direct link to one.
- Add the music — MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, OGG or FLAC — or paste a link to an audio file.
- Under Original sound, choose:
- Keep it and mix — the music plays under the video's own sound (voices, ambience).
- Replace it — only the music is heard.
- Set Music volume — and, when mixing, Original volume.
- Choose the options:
- Repeat the music if it's shorter than the video.
- Fade the music out at the end — a 3-second fade so it doesn't stop abruptly.
- Press Add audio to video, watch the result, and download the MP4.
Getting the balance right
When people speak in the video, music must sit well underneath:
| Video | Music volume | Original volume |
|---|---|---|
| Talking, vlog, tutorial | 15–30% | 100% |
| Holiday montage with some ambience | 50–70% | 40–60% |
| Silent or noisy footage | 80–100% (replace) | — |
Listen on a phone speaker as well as headphones — that's how most people will hear it.
Length: the result always matches the video
- Longer song? It's cut at the end of the video, with a gentle fade if you ticked it.
- Shorter song? It repeats to fill the video, or stops early if you untick Repeat.
- Want a specific part of the song? Cut it first with the Audio Splitter.
- Several songs? Join them in order (with crossfades) using the Audio Joiner, then add the joined file.
Matching music to the mood
Fast, upbeat tracks suit sports, travel and party clips; calm acoustic or piano music suits family videos, tutorials and slow scenery. Try to cut the video so key moments land on a beat — it makes even simple edits feel professional.
Using music legally
Social platforms detect copyrighted music. A video with a popular song may be muted, blocked or demonetised. Use:
- Music you made or own the rights to.
- Royalty-free and Creative Commons libraries (check the licence's credit requirements).
- The platform's own music library, added inside the app, when posting to TikTok or Instagram.
Voice-overs work the same way
Record narration with the Voice Recorder, then add it here with Keep it and mix and the original volume turned down — or Replace it for a clean voice-over.
Quality and speed
When the video is H.264 or HEVC (most phone videos), the picture is copied untouched, so adding music takes seconds and the quality is identical. Other videos (such as VP8 WebM) are re-encoded as MP4. The sound is saved as high-quality AAC.
Privacy
Both files are processed in your browser with ffmpeg (WebAssembly); neither is uploaded. No watermark.
Frequently asked questions
Can I remove the original sound completely?
Yes — choose Replace it. Or just silence the video with Mute Video.
Can I start the music partway through the video?
Not directly. Add silence to the start of the song first — record a few seconds of silence and join it before the song with the Audio Joiner.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, in Safari or Chrome.
