To trim a video online, open the Video Cutter, add the video, play it and press Use current position at the moment you want it to start and again where it should end. Press Play selection to check, then Cut video and download. To remove a section from the middle instead, choose Cut it out. The video is processed in your browser, so it isn't uploaded, and there's no watermark.
Trim a video step by step
- Open the Video Cutter.
- Add the video — MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV — by clicking, dropping or pasting it, or paste a direct link to a video file.
- Play the video and pause where the clip should start. Press Use current position next to Start.
- Find the end and press Use current position next to End. You can also type times such as 1:30 or 1:02:15.5.
- Press Play selection to watch exactly what you've chosen.
- Keep Keep it (trim the rest) selected and choose the Accuracy (below).
- Press Cut video, check the result, and download it.
Fast or exact?
- Fast — original quality copies the video without re-encoding. Even a large file is cut in seconds, and the quality and format stay exactly the same. The catch: a video can only start on a keyframe, so the clip may begin up to a couple of seconds before your start time.
- Exact — to the frame re-encodes the clip as an MP4, so it starts on the exact frame you chose. It takes longer — for HD video, often longer than the clip itself.
Use Fast for most trims — a second of extra lead-in rarely matters. Use Exact when the first frame matters: a reaction, a punchline, a clip that has to be a precise length.
Cut a part out of the middle
To remove a mistake, an ad break or a boring stretch:
- Select the part to remove with Start and End.
- Choose Cut it out.
- Press Cut out the selection.
The parts before and after are joined seamlessly. This always re-encodes, so the join has no glitch. To remove several parts, repeat the process on the result.
Tips for clean trims
- Use the player's arrow keys (left/right) to step through the video a few seconds at a time when finding the exact moment.
- Leave a breath at the start and end — clips that begin or end mid-word feel abrupt.
- Check the sound, not just the picture: speech often starts a fraction before the speaker moves.
After trimming
- Make it smaller for sharing with Compress Video.
- Split a long video into several clips with the Video Splitter instead of trimming one at a time.
- Join trimmed clips together with the Video Merger.
Privacy and limits
Everything runs in your browser using ffmpeg (WebAssembly); the first use downloads the video engine (about 30 MB) once. Your video never leaves your device. Very large files (several GB) can exceed the browser's memory — on a computer that's rarely a problem for files under 1–2 GB.
Frequently asked questions
Does trimming reduce the quality?
Not with Fast: it copies the original video data. Exact and Cut it out re-encode at high quality, which isn't visibly different for most videos.
My browser can't play the video — can I still trim it?
Yes. If the preview can't play it (some iPhone HEVC videos on Windows, for example), type the start and end times instead.
What format is the result?
Fast keeps the original format (MP4 stays MP4, MOV stays MOV, WebM stays WebM). Exact and Cut it out produce MP4 (H.264 and AAC), which plays everywhere.
