Split a video into parts

Turn one long video into several shorter ones: 30-second or one-minute chunks for Stories and WhatsApp Status, equal parts small enough to send, or separate clips for each section of a recording.

How to split a video

  1. Add a video — MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV — or paste a direct link to one.
  2. Choose how to split it: into parts of equal length (15 s, 30 s, 1 min… or any number of seconds), into a number of equal parts, or at times you choose — type them, or play the video and press Add the current position.
  3. Check the list of parts it will make, then press Split video.
  4. Play any part, download them one by one, or download them all as a ZIP.

Fast or exact?

  • Fast copies the video without re-encoding, so the parts keep the original quality and format and even long videos split in seconds. Each part has to start on a keyframe, so the cuts can land up to a couple of seconds after the chosen times — parts may be slightly longer or shorter than planned.
  • Exact re-encodes the parts as MP4 (H.264 and AAC) with a keyframe at every split point, so each part is precisely the length you asked for. Use it when a part must stay under a limit, like 30 or 60 seconds. It takes longer.

Good to know

  • A last part shorter than half a second isn’t made; it would just be a flicker.
  • To keep only one part, use the Video Cutter; to put parts back together, the Video Merger.

Everything is processed in your browser with ffmpeg (WebAssembly): your video is never uploaded, and there are no watermarks.
