How to Split a Video into Parts (Equal or Custom)
Split a long video into equal parts, a set number of clips, or at the times you choose — then download each part or all as a ZIP. Free and in your browser.

To split a video into parts, open the Video Splitter, add the video, and choose how to split it: Into parts of equal length (such as 30 seconds or 1 minute), Into a number of parts, or At times I choose. Press Split video, then download each part or Download all as a ZIP. It runs in your browser, so the video isn't uploaded.
Split a video step by step
- Open the Video Splitter.
- Add your video — MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV — or paste a direct link to a video file.
- Choose how to Split:
- Into parts of equal length — 15 s, 30 s, 1 min, 90 s, 3 min, 10 min, or Other for any number of seconds.
- Into a number of parts — 2 to 20 equal parts.
- At times I choose — type the split points (such as 0:30, 1:15, 2:40), or play the video and press Add the current position at each one.
- Check the plan: it lists every part it will make, such as "3 parts: 0:00.0–0:40.0, …".
- Choose the Accuracy (below) and press Split video.
- Press Play on any part to check it, then Download individual parts or Download all (ZIP).
Fast or exact?
- Fast — original quality copies the video without re-encoding. Even a long video splits in seconds, and the parts keep the original quality and format. Each part must start on a keyframe, though, so the cuts can land up to a couple of seconds after the chosen times — parts may be slightly longer or shorter than planned.
- Exact — to the frame re-encodes the parts as MP4 with a keyframe at every split point, so each part is precisely as long as you asked. Use it when parts must stay under a limit (like a 60-second Story). It takes longer.
Common reasons to split a video
- Stories and Status updates that limit clip length — see the guide to splitting a video for WhatsApp Status.
- Sending a big video in pieces when each message or upload has a size limit.
- Separating sections of a long recording — a lecture, a meeting, a gameplay session — into individual clips.
- Making a series of short clips from one long video for social media.
Choosing split points well
- Split at natural pauses — between sentences, scenes or slides — so each part makes sense on its own. At times I choose with Add the current position makes that easy.
- Number the parts in captions ("1/4", "2/4") when posting them in sequence.
- Check the last part: if the video doesn't divide evenly, the last part is shorter. A last part under half a second isn't made at all.
What you get
Parts are named after your video — holiday-part-01.mp4, holiday-part-02.mp4, and so on — so they stay in order. The ZIP keeps the same names.
Related tools
- Keep just one part — the Video Cutter trims to a single section, or cuts a part out.
- Put parts back together, in any order — the Video Merger.
- Make each part smaller — Compress Video to Size gets a part under 16 MB for WhatsApp or 25 MB for email.
Privacy and performance
The video is processed on your device with ffmpeg (WebAssembly); the first use downloads the video engine (about 30 MB) once. Fast mode handles long videos easily. Exact mode re-encodes the whole video, so allow a few minutes for long HD videos — on a phone, shorter videos work best.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a limit on the number of parts?
Up to 200 parts in one go — far more than most uses need.
Does splitting reduce quality?
Not with Fast: the original video data is copied. Exact re-encodes at high quality.
Can I split a screen recording?
Yes — including WebM recordings from browsers, which often don't store their length; the splitter reads through the file to find it.
