Cut and trim a video

Keep just the part of a video you need — the highlight of a match, one answer from an interview, the useful minute of a long screen recording — or cut an unwanted part out of the middle. Pick the start and end while you watch, and the clip is ready in seconds.

How to cut a video

  1. Add a video — MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV — or paste a direct link to one.
  2. Play it and press Use current position for the start and the end, or type the times (such as 1:30 or 1:02:15.5).
  3. Press Play selection to check it.
  4. Choose Keep it to trim everything else away, or Cut it out to remove that part and join the rest.
  5. Cut, preview the result, and download it.

Fast or exact?

  • Fast copies the video without re-encoding (“stream copy”): the clip keeps the original quality and format, and even a large file takes seconds. Because a video can only start on a keyframe, the clip may begin up to a couple of seconds before your start time.
  • Exact re-encodes the clip as an MP4 (H.264 and AAC), so it starts on the exact frame. It takes longer, especially for long or 4K videos.
  • Cut it out is always exact, so the join is seamless.

Good to know

  • If your browser can’t preview a file (some iPhone HEVC videos on Windows, for example), you can still type the times and cut it.
  • To split a video into several parts, use the Video Splitter; to join clips, the Video Merger; to make the clip smaller, Compress Video.

Everything is processed in your browser with ffmpeg (WebAssembly): your video is never uploaded, and there are no watermarks.
