How to Post a Long Video on WhatsApp Status
WhatsApp Status limits each video clip. Split a long video into exact 30- or 60-second parts and post them in order — free, in your browser, no app needed.

WhatsApp Status only takes a short clip per update — about a minute on current versions of the app, and 30 seconds on older ones. To post a longer video, split it into parts first: open the Video Splitter, choose Into parts of equal length, pick 1 min (or 30 s), choose Exact — to the frame, and split. Then post the parts to your Status in order.
Split the video step by step
- Open the Video Splitter on your phone or computer.
- Add the video — on a phone, tap the upload area and choose it from your gallery or Photo Library.
- Choose Into parts of equal length and select 1 min — or 30 s if your WhatsApp only accepts 30-second clips.
- Choose Exact — to the frame, so no part runs even a fraction over the limit.
- Press Split video.
- Download the parts: tap Download on each, or Download all (ZIP) on a computer.
On iPhone, open each downloaded part in Safari's downloads and use Share › Save Video to add it to Photos. On Android, the parts land in your Downloads folder, which WhatsApp's gallery picker can open.
Post the parts in order
- In WhatsApp, open the Updates tab and tap the camera or pencil icon to add a Status.
- Pick part 1 first, add a caption like "1/4" if you like, and send.
- Repeat for part 2, part 3, and so on.
Viewers see Status updates in the order you posted them, so post part 1 first.
Why "Exact" matters here
The Fast option copies the video without re-encoding and splits on keyframes, so a "60-second" part can come out at 61 or 62 seconds — and WhatsApp would then ask you to trim it. Exact puts a cut precisely every 60 (or 30) seconds.
Let WhatsApp do it (sometimes)
When you pick a long video for your Status, recent versions of WhatsApp may offer to split it into several Status clips automatically, or ask you to trim it. If yours does, that's quickest. Splitting first gives you control over where the cuts fall, works with every version, and keeps a copy of the parts for other apps.
Make the cuts land in sensible places
Equal-length parts can cut a sentence in half. For talking videos, use At times I choose instead: play the video, pause at a natural break before each minute mark, and press Add the current position. Each part just has to stay under the limit.
Size and quality
WhatsApp compresses Status videos anyway. If a part is very large — 4K from a new phone, for example — the upload can be slow on mobile data. Shrink it first with Compress Video to Size, choosing the 16 MB preset; or trim away what you don't need with the Video Cutter before splitting.
The same trick for other apps
Many apps limit clip length — Instagram Stories show up to 60 seconds per Story, for example. Split with the matching length, choose Exact, and post the parts in order.
Frequently asked questions
Is the video uploaded anywhere?
No. It's split on your device, in the browser.
Does it add a watermark?
No — and no sign-up.
How long can the original video be?
On a computer, long videos are fine. On a phone, a few minutes of HD video works well; very long 4K videos may run out of memory in the browser — split them on a computer or trim them first.
