Speed up or slow down a video

Make a slow-motion replay, speed through a long tutorial, or turn a recording into a time-lapse. Choose any speed from a quarter of normal to four times as fast. The sound changes speed with the picture but keeps its natural pitch, so voices don’t sound like chipmunks — or you can remove the sound altogether.

How to change video speed

  1. Upload the video, or paste a direct link to one.
  2. Pick a speed: 0.25×, 0.5× or 0.75× to slow down; 1.25×, 1.5×, 2×, 3× or 4× to speed up. The new length is shown before you start.
  3. Keep the sound or remove it, then change the speed, preview the result and download the MP4.

Good to know

  • Slowing down shows each frame for longer rather than inventing new ones, so very slow speeds look smoothest on videos filmed at 60 frames a second or more.
  • Speeding up makes the video shorter, and usually the file smaller.
  • The result is an MP4 (H.264 video, AAC sound) whatever the original format — MOV, WebM or MKV — so it plays on any phone and uploads anywhere.
  • More effects: play it backwards, loop it, or cut it first with the Video Cutter.

Everything is processed in your browser with ffmpeg (WebAssembly): your video is never uploaded, and there are no watermarks.
