Make a line chart online

Line charts show how a value changes over time — monthly sales, website visits, temperatures, exam scores — and comparing several lines on one chart shows which grows fastest. Paste your table and the chart updates as you type.

How to make a line chart

  1. Paste or type your data: a label in the first column (for example the month) and one column of numbers for each line. Copy straight from Excel or Google Sheets, or type it with commas.
  2. Give the first row names, and they become the legend.
  3. Choose smooth or straight lines, points, values on the points, axis titles, and a prefix or suffix such as $ or %.
  4. Set the title, colours and image size, then download a PNG, JPG or SVG, or copy the image.

Tips

  • Put time on the horizontal axis, left to right.
  • Leave a cell empty where a value is missing: the line breaks there instead of pretending to know it.
  • Smooth curves never overshoot your data, so a peak on the chart is a peak in your numbers; straight lines show the exact change between points.
  • To shade the area under the line, use the Area Chart Maker; to compare categories rather than time, the Bar Chart Maker.

Your data stays in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
