How to Make a Line Graph Online (Several Lines)

Paste a table and get a line graph with one line per column — smooth or straight, points and values, axis titles. Gaps for missing data. Export PNG, JPG or SVG.

To make a line graph, open the Line Chart Maker and paste your table: dates or labels in the first column, one column of numbers for each line, and line names in the first row. The graph updates as you type. Choose smooth or straight lines, show points and values, add axis titles, and download a PNG, JPG or SVG.

Make a line graph step by step

  1. Open the Line Chart Maker.
  2. Paste or type your data:
Month,Website,Mobile app
Jan,1200,800
Feb,1350,950
Mar,1500,1300
Apr,1420,1650

Copy straight from Excel or Google Sheets, or type commas. Example shows the format; Import file loads a CSV. 3. Under Options:

  • Smooth curves or straight lines.
  • Show points and Show values.
  • Y axis starts at zero, if the scale should include zero.
  • Line width.
  • X-axis title and Y-axis title, and a Prefix or Suffix ($, %, °C).
  1. Under Style, set the title, palette, background and image size.
  2. Download PNG, SVG or JPG, or Copy image.

Missing values

Leave a cell empty where a value is missing — a week without data, a sensor offline. The line breaks there instead of pretending to know the value. A cell with text that isn't a number is treated the same way, and the tool tells you which rows it skipped.

Smooth or straight?

  • Smooth curves look polished and never overshoot your data: a peak on the chart is a real peak in your numbers.
  • Straight lines show the exact change from point to point — better for few points or when every value matters.

Should the Y axis start at zero?

  • For totals and amounts (sales, visitors), starting at zero keeps proportions honest.
  • For values that vary in a narrow band (temperature, a stock price, a percentage around 50%), letting the axis zoom in shows the movement. Line charts — unlike bar charts — can do this honestly, as long as the axis is labelled.

Line graph best practices

  • Put time on the horizontal axis, left to right.
  • Keep to about five lines. More becomes spaghetti — highlight the important one with a strong colour.
  • Name the lines with a header row, so the legend appears.
  • Use consistent intervals — a missing month should be an empty cell, not a skipped row.

A quick example

Compare website and app visitors over six months: paste a three-column table (month, website, app). With Show points on and Smooth curves off, every monthly value is visible; add Show values for a report where readers need the exact numbers, or leave them off for a cleaner slide.

Using the chart

PNG and JPG are saved at twice the size shown, for sharp slides and documents; SVG stays sharp at any size and opens in design tools. Copy image pastes straight into Slides, Docs or an email.

Privacy

The chart is drawn in your browser — your data isn't uploaded or stored.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste dates?

Yes — the first column can be any text: dates, months, years or names. They're shown as typed, evenly spaced.

How many points can I plot?

Hundreds. With long series, only some labels are shown along the axis so they stay readable.

Can I plot two different units?

One value axis is shared by all lines. For very different scales, make two charts.
