Make a bar chart online

Bar charts compare amounts side by side — sales by region, votes by option, scores by student. Paste a table and the chart appears as you type; add more columns to compare several series.

How to make a bar chart

  1. Paste or type your data: a category in the first column and one column of numbers per series. The first row can name the series. Copy straight from Excel or Google Sheets, or type it with commas.
  2. Choose Vertical (columns) or Horizontal bars and, for several series, Side by side, Stacked or 100% stacked.
  3. Sort the bars largest or smallest first if the order doesn’t matter, and show the values on the bars.
  4. Add axis titles and a prefix or suffix such as $ or %, set the title, colours and size, then download a PNG, JPG or SVG, or copy the image.

Tips

  • Bars always start at zero, so their lengths compare honestly.
  • Horizontal bars suit long category names and long lists; sorting makes rankings obvious.
  • Stacked bars show totals and their parts; 100% stacked bars compare shares when totals differ.
  • Showing shares of one whole? Try the Pie Chart Maker. Trends over time? The Line Chart Maker. Many values? The Histogram Maker or Pareto Chart Maker.

Your data stays in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
