LinkedIn Banner Size (1584 × 396) and How to Make One

The LinkedIn profile banner is 1584 × 396 pixels. Here’s how to turn a photo into one that isn’t awkwardly cropped on phones or hidden by your profile picture.

The LinkedIn profile banner — the background photo at the top of your profile — is 1584 × 396 pixels, a long 4:1 strip. To make one from any photo, open the Social Media Image Resizer, add the image, tick LinkedIn · Profile banner, use Crop to fill and click the photo to choose which band of it to keep, then download and upload it on LinkedIn.

All four are built into the Social Media Image Resizer, so you can make matching versions at once.

Make your banner step by step

  1. Choose a wide photo — a landscape, a city skyline, your workplace, a clean texture, or a branded graphic.
  2. Open the Social Media Image Resizer and add it.
  3. Tick LinkedIn · Profile banner.
  4. Choose Crop to fill and click the part of the photo that should stay in view — a 4:1 strip is very thin, so most of a normal photo is trimmed away.
  5. Download, then on LinkedIn open your profile, click the camera icon on the banner, and upload it.

To add a line of text — your role, a tagline, a website — open the result in Add Text to Image before uploading.

Watch the hidden areas

Your profile picture overlaps the banner, and the overlap moves between desktop and phone:

  • On desktop, the round profile photo covers part of the lower-left of the banner.
  • On phones, the banner is shown narrower, so its left and right edges are cropped, and the profile photo sits over its centre-left.

So:

  • Keep text and logos in the right-centre area, away from the bottom-left and the far edges.
  • Don't put anything important in the bottom quarter on the left.
  • Check on your phone after uploading, and adjust the crop if something important is hidden.
  • A wide photo with lots of calm space — sky, sea, a blurred office — looks professional and never clashes with the profile picture.
  • Brand colours with a short tagline on the right: "Helping small businesses grow online".
  • Your work in action — a stage, a workshop, a product line — cropped to a strip.
  • Simple and readable over clever: the banner is seen at a glance.

Matching profile picture

A clear, well-lit headshot cropped to a square is what LinkedIn needs; it's displayed as a circle. The Round Image Crop tool shows exactly how it will look in a circle, so you can centre your face properly.

Common problems

"My banner looks blurry"

The photo was too small for a 1584-pixel-wide image and got stretched. Start with a photo at least 1600 pixels wide.

"LinkedIn cropped my design"

The image wasn't 4:1. Resize it to exactly 1584 × 396 so LinkedIn doesn't crop it again, and check the mobile view.

"The file won't upload"

LinkedIn accepts JPG, PNG and GIF banners up to 8 MB. Save as JPG if your file is larger.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same image for the company page?

Company pages use a different, even narrower cover (1128 × 191). Tick both sizes in the resizer and crop each version.

Is my photo uploaded to iPixHub?

No. Everything happens in your browser.
