How to Generate an Image from Text with AI (Free)

Describe a picture and let AI create it — choose the aspect ratio, add a reference image, generate variations, then edit and download a PNG. Tips for prompts.

To create an image from a description, open the AI Image Generator & Editor, type what you want to see, choose an aspect ratio, and generate. You can add a reference image to guide the style, generate several variations, then refine the one you like with cropping, filters and AI edits before downloading it as a PNG.

Generate an image step by step

  1. Open the AI Image Generator & Editor.
  2. Write a prompt describing the picture (tips below).
  3. Choose the aspect ratio — square for social posts, 16:9 for slides and thumbnails, 9:16 for Stories.
  4. Optionally add a reference image to steer the style or content.
  5. Generate one or more variations and pick the best.
  6. Refine it: crop, adjust colour and light, rotate or flip, or apply an AI edit with a written instruction ("make the sky sunset orange").
  7. Download the result as a PNG.

Cropping, filters and transforms run in your browser. Generation and AI edits are processed by an AI service (Google Gemini) through iPixHub's server, with a free daily allowance.

Writing a good prompt

AI image models do best with specific, visual descriptions. A useful structure:

Subject + details + setting + style + lighting + composition

Compare:

  • Vague: "a dog"
  • Specific: "a golden retriever puppy sitting in a field of sunflowers, soft afternoon sunlight, shallow depth of field, photograph"

Tips:

  • Name the style: photograph, watercolour, flat vector illustration, 3D render, pencil sketch, isometric.
  • Describe the light: golden hour, soft studio light, neon, overcast.
  • Set the camera: close-up, wide shot, from above, eye level.
  • Mention colours you want: pastel palette, brand colours like deep blue and orange.
  • Keep text out of the image. AI-generated lettering is often garbled. Add text afterwards with Add Text to Image.

Iterate instead of starting over

If a result is close but not right, change one thing in the prompt at a time — the light, the angle, the style — and generate again. Small, deliberate changes get you to the picture you imagined faster than rewriting everything.

Editing your own photos

The same tool edits photos you upload: crop and straighten, adjust colour, and apply AI edits such as background removal, restoration, style transfer, or a free-text instruction. To replace just the background of a product or portrait with a new scene, the AI Background Generator is more focused.

Good uses for generated images

  • Blog and article illustrations where a stock photo would be generic.
  • Social media posts — then size them with the Social Media Image Resizer.
  • Presentation backgrounds and title slides.
  • Mood boards and concepts for design projects.
  • Placeholder images while real photography is arranged.

Use AI images responsibly

  • Don't create realistic images of real people doing things they didn't do, or images meant to deceive.
  • Label AI-generated images where it matters — news, reviews, documentation — so readers aren't misled.
  • Check the terms of any platform where you publish; some require disclosure of AI content.
  • Avoid trademarks and copyrighted characters in commercial work.

When to use a real photo instead

AI images are illustrations. For product listings, real-estate photos, ID photos and anything that shows a real thing as it is, use real photographs — generated images of products or places can mislead customers.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes, with a free daily allowance and no account needed.

Can I use the images commercially?

Check the current terms of use. Generally, avoid real people's likenesses, trademarks and copyrighted characters in commercial images.

Why does text in my image look wrong?

Image models struggle with lettering. Generate the image without text and add the words afterwards.
