Add page numbers to a PDF
Number the pages of a PDF in seconds — essential for reports, theses, manuals, contracts and anything that will be printed or discussed page by page.
How to number PDF pages
- Upload the PDF.
- Choose the style — 3, Page 3, 3 / 12 or Page 3 of 12 — the position and the size.
- Set the first number, and tick “Don’t number the first page” to leave a cover page blank.
- Add the numbers and download the PDF.
Tips
- Bottom centre is the usual place for documents; top right suits notes and legal papers.
- With the cover skipped, the first number goes on page 2 — so a report can start at 1 after its title page.
- Combining several files? Merge them first so the numbers run through the whole document, and put pages in order with Rearrange PDF before numbering.
- Numbers are placed the right way up on landscape and rotated pages too.
