To put two photos next to each other in one image, open Combine Images, add both pictures, choose Horizontal for side by side (or Vertical to stack them, or a Grid), set a border if you want a line between them, and download the combined image as PNG or JPG. It works for two photos or twenty.
Combine photos step by step
- Open Combine Images and add your pictures — select several at once.
- Choose the Layout Direction:
- Horizontal — side by side, left to right.
- Vertical — stacked, top to bottom.
- Grid Matrix — rows and columns; set the number of Grid Columns.
- Under Borders & Spacing, set the Border Thickness and Border Color — a thin white line looks clean; zero for a seamless join.
- Choose PNG for screenshots and graphics or JPEG for photos.
- Download the combined image.
Before-and-after photos
The classic use. To make a comparison that's easy to read:
- Same framing: take both photos from the same spot, at the same zoom and angle. Crop them to match with the Image Cropper if they differ.
- Same size: pictures of similar dimensions line up best. Resize the larger one with the Image Resizer first if they differ a lot.
- Same light: shoot at a similar time of day; very different lighting makes it look like a different place.
- Label them: add "Before" and "After" with Add Text to Image after combining.
Side by side suits portrait photos (renovations of a door, a haircut); stacked suits landscape photos (a garden, a room) so each stays large on a phone screen.
Other things to combine
- Product variants: colours or angles of the same product in one row for a listing.
- Step-by-step screenshots: stack them vertically to show a process in one image.
- ID card front and back: stack both sides in one image for a form that allows only one upload. If the form wants a PDF, convert the result with Image to PDF.
- Photo collages: a 2×2 or 3×3 grid of holiday photos to share as one picture.
- Comparisons: two designs, two outfits, two options for a vote.
Phones: the same in your pocket
The tool works in mobile browsers. Pick the photos from your gallery, combine them, and save the result back to your photos — handy for posting a before-and-after to Instagram or WhatsApp straight away. For Instagram, check the final shape: a side-by-side pair of portrait photos is wide, and may need fitting into a 4:5 post with the Social Media Image Resizer.
Framing the result
To add an outer frame around the whole combined image — or pad it to a square — use Add Border to Image after combining.
Going the other way
To cut one image into several pieces instead — for an Instagram grid or a panorama carousel — use the Image Splitter.
Tips for a clean result
- Order matters: images are combined in the order you add them. Add the "before" photo first.
- Mismatched heights in a horizontal layout leave empty space; crop or resize to similar heights first.
- Very large photos make a very large combined image. Resize big phone photos to around 1600 pixels first if you're sharing on screen.
- Choose JPG for sharing, PNG for screenshots with text.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The images are combined in your browser.
How many images can I combine?
As many as you like, though very large grids of full-size photos produce huge images; resize first for big collages.
Can I add a gap instead of a line?
Yes — set the border colour to match the background (white, for example) to create a gap rather than a visible line.
