How to Convert PNG to JPG (and Make Files Smaller)
Turn PNG screenshots and images into JPG files that are often 5–10 times smaller — one at a time or in batches, with a quality setting. Free, no upload.

To convert a PNG to JPG, open the Image Converter, add your PNG files, set Target Format to JPG (JPEG Image), adjust the quality, and click Process Images. Download each JPG or all of them as a ZIP. For photos and screenshots, the JPG is often five to ten times smaller than the PNG and looks the same.
Convert PNG to JPG step by step
- Open the Image Converter.
- Drag your PNG files onto the box, or click to choose them — several at once is fine.
- Under Target Format, choose JPG (JPEG Image).
- Set the Quality — 85–90% keeps photos looking identical; lower gives smaller files.
- Optionally use the Resize setting to scale the images down by a percentage.
- Click Process Images, then download the JPGs individually or as a ZIP.
Why convert PNG to JPG?
- Smaller files. PNG stores every pixel exactly, which makes photos and screenshots of photos enormous. JPG compresses them to a fraction of the size.
- Upload limits. Forms and websites often reject large files, or accept only JPG.
- Email. Ten PNG screenshots can exceed an attachment limit that ten JPGs fit easily under.
- Faster web pages. A PNG hero photo of 4 MB can become a 300 KB JPG.
When to keep PNG
JPG isn't better at everything:
- Transparency: JPG has no transparent areas. Transparent parts of a PNG — around a logo or a cut-out product — become a solid colour (usually white) when converted.
- Text and sharp lines: screenshots of text, diagrams and logos can show faint smudges around edges in JPG. Keep them as PNG, or use a high JPG quality.
- Repeated editing: each JPG save loses a little quality. Keep a PNG master if you'll edit it again.
If you need small files and transparency, convert to WebP instead — it supports both. See how to convert images to WebP.
How much smaller will it be?
| Image | PNG | JPG (85%) |
|---|---|---|
| Phone photo saved as PNG | 8–15 MB | 1–2 MB |
| Screenshot of a web page | 1–3 MB | 200–500 KB |
| Simple logo or icon | 20–50 KB | similar or bigger |
Photos shrink dramatically; flat graphics with few colours don't, and are better left as PNG.
Check before you delete the PNGs
Open a converted JPG and look at any text or fine lines at full size. If they look fuzzy, convert again at a higher quality — and keep the PNG originals until you're happy with the results.
Converting many images
The converter handles batches, but for large folders with consistent sizes and names, the Bulk Converter & Resizer converts, resizes and renames dozens of files in one go and downloads a single ZIP.
Need it even smaller?
After converting, the Image Compressor can reduce the size further and limit the dimensions — for example to 1920 pixels wide for a website — and Compress Image to KB hits an exact file-size limit.
Turning a JPG with a white background back into a transparent PNG
That's not a format conversion — the background has to be removed. The Background Remover cuts out the subject and saves a transparent PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser, so screenshots with private information stay on your device.
Can I convert on my phone?
Yes. The converter works in mobile browsers; converted images are saved to your Downloads or Files.
What about other formats?
The same tool converts between JPG, PNG and WebP, and reads other common formats your browser can open, such as GIF and BMP.
