To get a specific answer from a long PDF, open the AI PDF Summarizer, add the document, type your question in Ask a question — for example "What are the payment terms?" — and click Summarize PDF. The AI answers from the document's own text, alongside a summary, so you don't have to read 40 pages to find one clause.

Ask a PDF a question

  1. Open the AI PDF Summarizer and add the PDF.
  2. Type your question in Ask a question (optional) — up to 300 characters.
  3. Choose the summary length and language as usual.
  4. Click Summarize PDF. The answer appears with the summary.
  5. To ask something else, change the question and click Summarize again.

Questions that work well

The best questions are specific and answerable from the document:

Contracts and agreements

  • What is the notice period for cancellation?
  • What are the payment terms and late fees?
  • Who is responsible for repairs?
  • Does the contract renew automatically?

Reports and research

  • What were the main findings?
  • What sample size and method were used?
  • What are the limitations the authors mention?
  • What does the report recommend?

Manuals and policies

  • How do I reset the device to factory settings?
  • How many days of leave am I entitled to?
  • What's the procedure for a refund?

Applications and forms

  • What documents do I need to attach?
  • What's the deadline, and where do I submit it?

Getting better answers

  • Ask one thing at a time. "What's the deadline?" gets a clearer answer than "What's the deadline, the fee and who signs?"
  • Use the document's words. If the contract says "termination", ask about termination rather than "quitting".
  • Ask for specifics. "List every date mentioned" or "Which clauses mention penalties?" helps with long documents.
  • Narrow the document. For very long PDFs, split out the relevant chapter with Split PDF and ask about that.

Always check the source

An AI answer is a starting point, not a final word. It can misread a clause, miss an exception buried elsewhere, or answer confidently when the document is ambiguous. For anything that matters — legal obligations, money, health, deadlines — find the relevant passage in the PDF and read it yourself. The summary's section-by-section overview tells you where to look; PDF to Text lets you search the full text.

Comparing versions instead?

If your real question is "what changed between these two versions?", an AI summary isn't the right tool — Compare PDF highlights every added and deleted word precisely.

Limits and privacy

  • Length: up to about 150,000 characters (around 40 pages of dense text) are read at once; longer documents are read from the start.
  • Scans: scanned PDFs have no text to read; run PDF OCR first.
  • Privacy: the PDF is read in your browser and only its text is sent to the AI to answer, then discarded — it isn't stored. Avoid it for documents you're not permitted to share with outside services.
  • Free use: questions are part of the free daily allowance; the tool shows what's left.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask in a different language from the document?

Yes. Ask in your language and choose it as the summary language; the AI reads the document in its original language.

What if the answer isn't in the document?

The AI should say so. If it gives an answer you can't find in the PDF, treat it as unreliable.

Does it remember my previous questions?

No. Each question is answered fresh, together with a new summary.
